ALENTI (GR)
Alenti is a contemporary acoustic ensemble exploring the connections between jazz improvisation, modal traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean and rhythm-based composition. Formed around percussionist and ethnomusicologist Alexandros Rizopoulos, the group approaches rhythm as a central musical element rather than simple accompaniment.
Their debut album Jasmine (2021) moves between composed structures and open improvisation, shaped by subtle rhythmic details and collective interaction between the musicians. Drawing inspiration from Greek and Mediterranean musical traditions, the ensemble combines instruments such as lyra, qanun, double bass and percussion into a distinctive acoustic sound. Alenti’s live performances focus on interaction, shared rhythm and musical dialogue, presenting a contemporary sound that connects traditional influences with modern improvisation.
